The Belgian Banking Law marks its 10th anniversary on 25 April 2024.
AEDBF-Belgium took this opportunity to examine how this fundamental law of Belgian banking and financial law has been implemented in practice. We invited practitioners who will share their insights with the AEDBF-audience on a selected series of topics.
How effective and responsive were the regulations that came into effect ten years ago, in addressing the needs of financial institutions and their stakeholders? What has changed since then? What are the current issues that Banking lawyers need to focus on?
Here is a flavor of the topics that will be handled:
- Credit Institution: definition and concrete application, shadow banking, impact of the EU Investment Firms Regulation and Directive
(Vanessa MARQUETTE) - The governance of financial institutions (Sylvia KIERSZENBAUM and Niels DE WAELE)
- The funding of banks: sources (mix), diversity, stability and credit protection (Ivan PEETERS)
- Sustainable finance and ESG risks as upcoming pivotal elements in banking (Veerle COLAERT)
- Groups in the banking sector: selected topics (Anne FONTAINE and Pierre DE PAUW)
- M&A in the banking sector (Etienne DESSY)
- Recovery and resolution of credit institutions (Steven VAN HONACKER)
More details on the program and practicalities can be found in the attached brochure.
